Our Story

Yakety Pack didn't start with a business plan. It started with four lifelong friends, who grew up side by side, building worlds together. Literally.

As kids, we spent countless hours gaming, laughing, and creating. Years later, when our own children were old enough to hold a controller, we built a giant shared Minecraft world together. It became our family project, full of snowy‑mountain bases, pets, and the wild, trial‑and‑error farms we engineered as a team. Every corner held a memory.

But slowly, almost without noticing, that world started gathering dust.

The iPads became more attached to our kids than we were. The shared play sessions faded. Conversations got shorter. Screens lit up, and connection dimmed. We tried talking. We tried journaling. We tried all the "parenting tools." But everything felt like prying, not playing.

And we missed them.
We missed us.

At the same time, we were coaching kids, our own and dozens of others, 15 to 20 hours a week. We saw firsthand how different every child is. Some open up instantly. Some barely speak. Some need a gentle nudge, others need space. One of our players with sensory challenges barely interacted at first, but the day he asked to add a song to our team playlist, something shifted. Another pair of kids who couldn't stop bickering eventually became best friends after we helped them find common ground.

Those moments taught us something important:
Kids want to connect. They just need the right doorway.

So we started building one.

The first version of Yakety Pack was nothing more than a handful of printer-paper cards cut to size. We'd test a question or two, watch it dead-end, refine it, try again. It took months to get the balance right, open-ended enough to spark stories, guided enough to avoid awkward silence, fun enough to feel like play.

And then something happened.

We brought those rough little cards to dinner with our extended family. All the cousins played for a while, but when the food arrived, the two youngest, seven and eight, didn't want to stop. They volleyed questions back and forth the entire evening. Watching them connect so naturally, so joyfully, gave us that warm, fuzzy, "this is it" feeling in our stomachs.

That was the moment we knew we were onto something.

Today, Yakety Pack lives at our own dinner tables. It's laughter, chaos, and the kind of silly, slightly edgy punchlines only a 10 and 7 year‑old can invent. It's not always what we envisioned, but it's exactly what we hoped for. Spontaneous conversation. Real connection. Kids opening up without even realizing they're doing it.
